8 Food Festivals Worth the Drive

Why it’s worth it: Imagine mouthwatering food everywhere you look! Why it’s worth it: The Georgia Peach Festival is all about giving props to those peach growers who keep the state's economy peachy keen and the food industry buzzing. The festival is the one and only official state-sanctioned food fest around. It has that special stamp of approval, making it stand out from the crowd. Every year, folks from all over – church squads, seniors, and even those rolling in on charter buses – flock to join the fun. They spread out across Byron and Fort Valley, the twin hubs of Peach County, soaking up all the peachy goodness – vendors, activities and more – that the festival has to offer.

Why it’s worth it: This festival started small but has become a big deal, drawing in around 60,000 folks every year. It began in 2000 at the historic train depot in downtown Kennesaw, with a blues concert and a barbecue cook-off for a few backyard grillers. Fast forward to 2007, and the event got a major upgrade when it became an official competition. By 2008, it needed more space, so it moved to Adams Park. Now, in its 23rd year, Pigs & Peaches is all about two days of awesome tunes, delicious grub, chilled brews, and loads of family-friendly fun.

Why it’s worth it: Helen’s Oktoberfest is the longest-running Oktoberfest in the United States! Where better to enjoy the celebration than in the Bavarian-themed town of Helen, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains? Every year, top-notch German-style bands from both the US and Europe hit the stage to entertain you. Picture this: Alphorns being blown, cowbells ringing, and accordions squeezing out classic tunes. Grab your partner and work up an appetite doing the polka, then head to the vendors for some authentic German cuisine and brews.

Homemade Greek dishes that'll make your taste buds dance, divine desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth, and, of course, the ultimate Greek dance party with some seriously infectious music. Hosted by St Paul's Greek Orthodox Church at the Hellenic Center, thousands of visitors flock to the festival every year. Come join in on the fun, indulge in some mouthwatering treats (think pastisio and spanakopita), and soak up the rich culture of Greece.
