pop T’s

Long before the fancy flavors and elaborate decoration of today’s Pop-Tarts, there was old-school simplicity. I remember dragging a chair halfway across my kitchen floor so I could reach high up in the cabinet—way in the back, hidden behind the “healthy” breakfast stuff—and grab my favorite Pop-Tart: brown sugar and cinnamon. Too excited to wait for the toaster to warm it up, I would eat the dough edges in an organized pattern moving clockwise around the tart, then the top layer, and finally the bottom layer with the filling. Nirvana. Now that I’m older, I’ve re-created my favorite breakfast treat with an adult pastry chef spin (and kids like them too!).
