Not only do they add flavor and texture to dishes, but they are also low in calories and high in nutrients, making them a healthy choice for any diet. Whether sautéed, roasted, or grilled, edible mushrooms are a versatile ingredient that can elevate any recipe. However, it is important to properly identify and prepare mushrooms to ensure they are safe for consumption, as some varieties can be poisonous.
Ingredients
1 pound of fresh mushrooms (shiitake or button mushrooms work well)
2 tbsp of vegetable oil
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tbsp of grated ginger
2 tbsp of soy sauce
1/2 tsp of sesame oil
1/4 tsp of red pepper flakes (optional)
2 green onions, thinly sliced
Sesame seeds, for garnish
Preparation
Clean and trim the mushrooms, removing any dirt or debris. Slice the mushrooms into bite-sized pieces.
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and cook for about 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
Add the mushrooms to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and lightly browned.
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
Pour the sauce over the mushrooms in the skillet and stir to coat the mushrooms evenly.
Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and the mushrooms are fully coated.
Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
Serve the Asian-flavored mushrooms hot as a side dish or add them to stir-fries, noodle dishes, or salads for added flavor and texture.
Enjoy your delicious and flavorful Asian-inspired mushrooms!
