Pig Candy with Dipping Sauces

Pig Candy with Dipping Sauces

Y’all can bust out this absolutely delicious appetizer really quick. It’s salty, it’s sweet, and it’s crunchy! The bacon-wrapped, almond-stuffed dates are paired with two flavor-packed dipping sauces.

Ingredients

40 pitted, halved dates

½ cup smoked, roasted, salted almonds

20 slices applewood smoked bacon, cut in half to create 40 pieces

Toothpicks

2 tablespoons honey

3 tablespoons spicy brown or yellow mustard

1 teaspoon onion powder

¼ cup hot sauce

¼ cup maple syrup

Preparation

1. Preheat the oven to 400ºF.

2. Stuff each date with 1 almond, then wrap with 1 of the half-slices of bacon. Wrap the bacon around the dates and secure with toothpicks. Arrange in a single layer on a greased baking sheet.

3. Bake, rotating with tongs a few times, until the bacon is very browned and the fat is rendered, 15–20 minutes.

4. While the dates bake, in a small bowl, mix together the honey, mustard, and onion powder. In a second small bowl, mix together the hot sauce and syrup.

5. Serve the pig candy with the dipping sauces!
