Chocolate Toast

Chocolate Toast

Ok y’all, sharing a special recipe here! This one is close to my heart. It’s not a French toast, or a piece of toast with chocolate spread on it. It’s one of my Dad’s creations, and it’s a buttery, bubbly, actual chocolate toast.

We are using Hershey’s cocoa powder and butter to make this unique chocolate toast, which is delicious with coffee or milk. It’s super quick and easy, and you can make it any morning! We’re also including optional instructions to add bacon and peanut butter.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon Hershey’s cocoa powder

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature

2 slices white bread (I prefer plain white bread for this, but you can also substitute brioche or baguette!)

3–4 slices cooked bacon, diced (optional)

Peanut butter (optional)

Preparation

1. Preheat your broiler or toaster oven to high heat.

2. In a small bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar to combine. Set aside.

3. Spread a thick layer of butter onto each bread slice. Then, spoon the cocoa-sugar mixture into the middle of the bread. Using the back of the spoon, spread the cocoa mixture evenly over the butter, making sure to completely cover the butter. Gently shake off any excess cocoa mixture.

4. Transfer the toasts to a baking sheet in a single layer. Broil, watching carefully to prevent burning, until the chocolate is bubbly and crisp but the bottom of the bread is still chewy, about 5 minutes.

5. Serve hot with coffee and/or milk!

For a peanut butter and bacon version: After buttering the bread, top the layer of butter with peanut butter, then sprinkle over the cocoa mixture and proceed with the recipe as instructed. After removing the toast from the oven, sprinkle the bacon bits on top and serve!
