Gløgg for the Holidays
When it comes to holiday boozy juice, this Scandinavian mulled wine takes the Kroner. Break out your crock pots and dust off that bottle of Porto. Aunt Nance might need to take an Uber home.
Equipment:
Crock Pot
Spice Bag/Cheesecloth or Strainer
Ingredients
750ML Bottle of Dry Red Wine
1 Cup Ruby Port
1/4 Cup Cognac or Brandy
2 Cinnamon Sticks
10 Cardamom Pods
1 Star Anise *Optional
Peel of 1/2 an Orange
8 Whole Cloves
1/2 Cup Demerara Sugar
1/3 Cup Slivered Almonds
1/2 Cup Black Raisins
Preparation
Pour the wine, port and liquor into a crock pot and turn it on high. Add demerara sugar and stir in gently. Crush 2 cinnamon sticks and the cardamom pods and place them in a spice bag or cheese cloth along with the cloves and put in the crock pot. Add the orange peels, raisins, slivered almonds and star anise. Keep the crock on high for about an hour. Be careful to make sure it doesn’t boil! Once the Gløgg is hot and has steeped for 45-60min, turn it to low. Remove the spice bag. Serve the Gløgg in small mug or teacup with a scoop of the raisins and slivered almonds. Keep the crock pot on low and enjoy all day long.
